Homemade Lasagna
One of my favorite meals to make when it starts to get cold is lasagna. It’s so cozy and comforting. I might be a little biased, but I do think that my homemade lasagna is the very best. Check out my recipe below.
Ingredients:
Ground beef
Italian sausage (I use mild most of the time, but hot is also good)
3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
2 jars of pasta sauce
Garlic salt
Italian seasoning
SuckleBusters Texas Gold Dust seasoning
Ricotta cheese*
Egg
Parmesan cheese
Mozzarella cheese
Provolone cheese
Lasagna noodles
Directions:
In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef, Italian sausage, garlic, and SuckleBusters seasoning until there is no pink left in the meat. Add the two jars of pasta sauce. Taste and add additional seasoning and salt/pepper to desired taste.
While the meat is cooking, cook the lasagna noodles in another pot with some salt until they are tender.
In a separate mixing bowl, mix Ricotta cheese, egg, parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasonings together. Set this aside until it’s time to make the layers.
Spray a 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
For the lasagna layers, I like to set mine up as follows:
A layer of meat sauce, and sprinkle some of the mozzarella cheese.
Layer of lasagna noodles.
A layer of the ricotta cheese mixture. Make sure this covers the noodles entirely and is nice and even.
Layer of lasagna noodles.
A layer of meat sauce, then provolone cheese (usually around 6 slices), and then mozzarella cheese where the provolone cheese doesn’t cover. Sprinkle some Italian seasoning on top.
Cover with aluminum foil and place in the oven.
Cook covered for around 30 minutes, and then an additional 15-20 minutes uncovered until the cheese on top start to bubble and brown.
Let sit for a few minutes before cutting and serving. Use a sharp nice to cut squares to serve and use a spatula to scoop it out on the plate.
Enjoy!
*If you don’t like Ricotta cheese, an alternative that I have found is mixing together 3 eggs and 3 Tablespoons of milk (I did 2% milk, but I have seen recipes that say evaporated milk too). In the baking dish, put a layer of meat sauce, a layer of noodles, then add the egg mixture, meat sauce, and cheese. Then follow up with another noodle layer, egg mixture, sauce, and cheese until you have filled up the pan.
